Members of the Beefy Crunch Movement should be livin’ the dream today, Sept. 13, as Taco Bell restores a fan favorite to its menu.
The Beefy Crunch Burrito is made with ground beef, rice, cheese sauce, sour cream and, crucially, Flamin’ Hot Fritos. Taco Bell is pairing it with Mountain Dew Baja Blast in a $2 duo.
The Irvine-based fast food chain made the announcement Wednesday in an email. It may be news to most of the free world, but not to members of the Beefy Crunch Movement, which has a website and a Facebook page and claims 71,000 fans.
There has been a countdown to Sept. 13 with memes on the Facebook page for days.
The campaign has been going on since Taco Bell pulled the Beefy Crunch Burrito from its menu in early 2011 with countless social media posts and Beefy Crunch tattoos.
But, like Marvel Comics superheroes, the Beefy Crunch Burrito keeps coming back after getting killed off.
Since 2014, Taco Bell has had a Beefy Frito Burrito on its dollar menu, which had the crunch if not the Flamin’ Hot seasoning. And in April 2016, the Beefy Crunch Burrito briefly rejoined the dollar lineup.
That’s when superfan Richard Axton was invited to Taco Bell headquarters to meet with then-CEO Brian Niccol and see the Beefy Crunch Movement added to the company’s history time line.
Since then Niccol has moved on to Chipotle Mexican Grill. We’ll see what happens with the Beefy Crunch Movement. It posted a letter from Taco Bell on its Facebook page saying the burrito would have a five-week run.
